Glossy Ibis, Ruff, Greenshank, Hobby & Kingfisher, but NO Osprey!

Today I visited Shapwick Heath nature reserve on the Somerset Levels with the sole intention of seeing and photographing an Osprey that had been resident there for about a month!
  Of course, typically, it had chosen today to put in a no-show!
Luckily there were plenty of other avian delights to see and photograph, although everything stayed frustratingly distant! A 600mm lens helps of course, but I'm waiting for a lightweight 1000mm f/4 lens to be produced..... I may be in for a long wait!
  I also met Andrew, the cycling birder from the EFRS blog, and enjoyed his company for a while. I envy the amount of time he gets to indulge in his nature photography hobby. I'd happily spend all day every day out in nature!
   There was a Glossy Ibis feeding on the Meare Heath scrape, a little closer than the only other time I had seen one a couple of months ago, over the road at Ham Wall. A wonderful bird!
  There were quite a few waders on the scrape, mostly Lapwings and Black Tailed Godwits, but also up to 10 Ruff and a couple of Greenshanks.
   Great White Egrets have become a familiar sight on the Somerset Levels reserves recently, and there were 3 or 4 about today, along with a few of their commoner cousin, the Little Egret.
   A Kingfisher teased me in front of Noah's Lake hide, flying up and down repeatedly but always landing just out of eyeshot! I did manage one (quite distant!) shot though.
    I also called into RSPB Greylake on my way out to Shapwick and saw a Hobby flying over the car-park.
 One of my favourite little birds was catching Grasshoppers at the livestock pens near the path to the hides. The Wheatear. I spent quite a while photographing the beautiful little poser! :)

Below are some of the pics from the day;
